BeSafe4

This was one of my first major projects at KiwiRail!

BeSafe4 is the start of a new Health and Safety approach for the entire business. It is a one-day safety leadership programme that engages with all KiwiRail staff on a personal level. It focuses on their reasons why they need to be safe and come home at the end of the day, whether it be their family, their friends, pets, plants, hobbies, travel plans, anything that’s important to them.

In this project, I was in charge of developing the look and feel for the course as well as creating all the course collateral.

I was supplied a logo, created by another designer before I was brought onto the project.

After talking to the developer of the course material I had a strong understanding of his intentions and a solid idea of visuals that would support the messaging.

For the main imagery, I decided on a collage of iconography, as it was an effective way to convey a lot of different ideas in a cohesive manner. There are icons present that represent family, sports, travel, food, nature, but because they’re all edited down to basic line art, they work together.

The main piece of collateral for this course is the take-home keyring cards. Throughout the day the facilitator will take the learners through the different meanings behind each card. One touches on mindfulness and being present in your environment, while another will talk on specific procedures at KiwiRail.

The learners will keep their cards after the course as a reminder of what they learned and why they are being safe.
